Week of October 30, 2017

Dear Neighborhood School Families,

The TNS Halloween parade has blossomed from a small school event to an East Village tradition. Children and families from our school and the surrounding neighborhood gather in the TNS recess yard to show off their costumes before proceeding on our community wide parade.  We will meet in the yard Tuesday at 5:30 p.m.  Please remember to save candy and costumes for the parade!

We work hard to provide a safe and successful learning environment for each child and when the the school day ends, we want children get to their next destination safely and securely.  During dismissal, doors to the recess yard are restricted.  To access the playground, please exit through the front doors and enter the park at the 3rd Street.  Please remember, children who have permission to leave their classrooms independently are expected to exit the school building at dismissal and may not remain in the lobby or other areas of the building.

Action for Healthy Kids and Go Go Squeez is sponsoring a Day of Service at TNS on Thursday, November 9th, from 3 - 7 p.m.   We have a lot planned, but can’t do it without some TNS parent volunteers, too.   Please sign-up to help, either the day of or to help ahead of time:

https://signup.com/mobileweb/2.0/vspot.html?activitykey=787013499396884090#choose_jobs_page.  Childcare is available for TNS students from 2:45 - 6 p.m.

Mark Your Calendars:

  • TNS staff and families have formed a Relief for Puerto Rico Committee in response to Hurricane Maria.  Families can donate supplies each week.  There will be boxes in the Lobby for donations.  This week is “first aid week”.

  • The School Leadership Team (SLT) will meet Thursday in Room 301 at 8 a.m.  The SLT is a committee made up of elected parents and teachers.  Monthly meetings are for the School Leadership Team Representatives and are open to all TNS families.

  • There will be an Advocacy Committee meeting Friday at drop-off in the small cafeteria.

  • Original Works due Friday!

Warmly,

Dyanthe
