Week of May 29, 2018

Dear Neighborhood School Families,

I am writing to share next year’s teaching placements with you.  We will have two Pre-K sections, four Kindergarten/1st grade classes, four 2nd/3rd grade classes and three 4th/5th grade classes.  Teachers and I have spent the winter and spring planning for the changes. Just like the kids, some teachers will be in new grades and in some cases, some kids may be with the same teacher(s) next year.  Wanda and Erin will teach Pre-K.  Dara, Catlin, Shaniqua & Chelsea, and Dianne & Shaquawn will teach K/1.  Jane, Grace & Caroline, and Olivia & Lindsey will teach 2/3. Hannah, Sofia & Joanne, and Alexis & Corinthia will teach ⅘.  Judy has taken a job closer to home and although we will miss her, we are happy she has found a school aligned to her progressive pedagogy.  Mara will teach Spanish, Emily will teach Science and Teddy will teach Physical Education. We are in the process of hiring another 2nd/3rd grade teacher.

I imagine that kids will have a lot of questions as they hear the news and teachers will talk with students about the changes that are happening.  We sent home a form last week inviting you to let me or your current teacher know if there is anything you’d like us to consider in making your child’s placement for next year.  Please know that we do not accept requests for specific teachers.  Our goal is to make well balanced classes all around.  We carefully consider your input along with information from teachers and other school staff, but please understand that we may not be able to honor every request.  Placement decisions will be published on the last day of school. We look forward to sharing your child’s new class list with you then.

Mark your calendars:

  • “Managing Your Child’s Big Feelings” is Tuesday at 8:30AM in Room 301.  Noemi and our Pre-K Social Worker, Alice will facilitate a group discussion of struggles and successes with the emotional lives of our Pre-K/K kids.

  • SING is Wednesday at 8:45AM in the auditorium.  We will have a bake sale in the lobby beforehand.

  • Our annual Spring Jam is Friday from 5 - 7PM in the 4th St courtyard.  Suggested donation is $10 per family and 100% of your donation supports TNS programming.

Warmly,

Dyanthe
