Week of 3.38.22

Dear Families,

The 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade NY State English Language Arts tests are tomorrow and Wednesday.  94% of our students have been opted out of the state tests.  TNS students who do not take the state tests will continue the meaningful work they engage in every day.

Although it might not feel like spring today, our 3rd Street garden is beginning to come to life, thanks to our parent volunteers.  Families took over the garden during Neighborhood Day and hid bulbs like hidden treasures. As a result, you can now see the golden daffodils in bloom.  While the bulbs and garden went dormant for winter, parent volunteers distributed seventeen paperwhites kits to classrooms. Students and staff observed the paperwhites bloom in a controlled environment in the middle of winter.  This year’s seedling program will also begin in classrooms. It includes a collection of pollinator flowers, snack veggies, greens, and a three sisters (corn, beans, and squash) experiment. You can join the team of parent volunteers by sending an email with your availability and contact info to 3rd Street School Garden: thirdstreetschoolgarden@gmail.com.
