Dyanthe’s Weekly Letter

Dear Families,

It has been another busy week at TNS. The children continue to learn about each other and their teachers and practice classroom routines. In many classrooms, students think about their hopes and dreams for the year.  In one ⅔ classroom, hopes and dreams range from learning long division to learning about horses.  One child said her hope and dream was “to get better at solving problems because I had a lot of them last year at recess.”

5th grade families, I hope you will join Tina, our guidance counselor, Denise, and me next Thursday at 6 p.m. for a Q&A about the middle school process.  Please also check out the NYC Public Schools information page.  All you need to know is there! Here is the meeting link.

Please join us for SING on Friday after arrival.  Our Pre-K children and their families will join SING starting in October! They are still adjusting to the classroom environment. While some changes may seem significant, it’s crucial to remember they are adapting to a new and larger school with older peers and different surroundings. As part of this transition, we have temporarily paused teaching songs—a long-standing tradition. Although preschoolers may not currently participate, they will have future opportunities to do so. The change in routine can be exceptionally challenging for them, making it harder to transition into the classroom and separate from their families. This disruption often affects their entire day, not just their ability to learn the songs. Therefore, giving the children time to acclimate is essential, ensuring they feel included and supported. As they continue to enjoy their classroom experiences and the learning opportunities their teachers provide, families will also have many chances to participate in this and other future activities.

Warmly,

Dyanthe
