Farewell Oli welcome Andy!

Dear Families,

I hope you and your family are doing well and enjoying cooler temperatures this week!

I am happy to share that Oli has left TNS and is joining PS 75 Emily Dickinson to be their librarian in the fall. Oli started at TNS 9 years ago, just out of school. Most of you know they moved from teaching K/1 to teaching PE for the last two years. As they shared in their email to staff, their biggest goal is to carry forward the progressive education values, deep thought, and caring for children they honed during their tenure here. We wish them the best!  I am attaching their goodbye video to families: https://youtu.be/EAnKtWXM_Es

I am thrilled to introduce you to our new P.E. teacher, Andy Spinello.  Andy comes to TNS with years of experience at like-minded schools.  Skills like empathy, conflict resolution, and navigating social interactions in meaningful, positive ways are integral to his approach to teaching. Andy wowed the hiring committee with a lesson on balance.  As one 3rd grader told me later, it was the best workout he had ever had in P.E.! Please read Andy’s letter to you.

I’ll be in touch soon.

Warmly,

Dyanthe

Hi TNS Families,

I wanted to introduce myself and share with all of you how excited I am to be joining the TNS Community as your new Physical Education teacher.

Just to share a bit about myself…

As a teacher: I previously taught Physical Education for 6 years at both PS 15 in Brooklyn and NEST+m in Manhattan.  Before that, I taught both kindergarten and 1st grade for 10 years. I’m eager to share exciting and fun new activities and experiences to help engage your children in developing their own understanding of wellness and the value of exercise and movement.

As an athlete and adventurer: I played Greenwich Village Little League baseball as a kid, biked solo cross-country from NYC to California, and hiked to the top of

Africa’s highest mountain, Mount Kilimanjaro.  Oh, and I also love marathons and mini-golf… just not at the same time.

And lastly, as a Dad: I have two very sweet, very energetic boys who I love to test out all

my new PE games on: 4-year-old Ethan and 8-year-old Sam.

Now that you know a bit about me, I’m looking forward to getting to know a bit about all of you once the school year starts.  I hope you all have an active and fun-filled summer, and I’ll see you in September!

Andy
