Dyanthe and Shaquawn’s Weekly Letter

Dear Families,

We are excited to share that we are starting the TNS StU (Student Union), a student-led organization to ensure every community member feels safe, seen, and celebrated! StU is the brainchild of one of our ⅘ teachers, Charlotte, who used this structure to help students realize their power and exercise their autonomy to make change for the larger community. They aim to facilitate events and activities that honor our diverse identities and work with school leadership to address student concerns surrounding school policy. They will also meet with younger students throughout the year to ensure their voices are heard. StU leaders are 4th and 5th graders who apply to join and are voted on by their peers based on their (anonymously shared) application ideas. Charlotte will be their adult liaison and mentor, organizing regular in-school meetings to discuss and plan! We have about 30 children excited about being a part of StU. We will keep you posted.

Enjoy the long and well-deserved break for whatever family traditions you honor this weekend. We hope that it feels restful and rejuvenating.

Warmly,

Dyanthe and Shaquawn
