The Neighborhood School is committed to ensuring that every family can fully participate in our community, regardless of financial circumstances.
No Family Left Out
One hundred percent of requests for financial assistance are met. No child misses a field trip, overnight experience, or school event because of cost. We maintain this commitment through PTA fundraising, grant funding, and community generosity.
Anti-Bias, Anti-Racist Education
Our curriculum is grounded in anti-bias and anti-racist principles. From the youngest learners through 5th grade, students engage with questions of identity, fairness, and justice in age-appropriate ways. This is not an add-on — it is woven into how we teach reading, math, social studies, and the arts.
Full Inclusion
TNS is a full-inclusion school with Integrated Co-Teaching (ICT) classrooms at every grade level. Students with IEPs learn alongside their peers, supported by both general education and special education teachers. Additional services include occupational therapy, speech therapy, counseling, and physical therapy.
Language & Cultural Diversity
Over 25 languages are spoken in our students' homes. We celebrate this diversity as a strength. All students receive Spanish instruction, and school communications are provided in multiple languages when possible. Our bilingual absence report form is available in English and Spanish.
Food Security
Free lunch is available to all NYC public school students. Additionally, our school food pantry, maintained in partnership with Trinity Church, provides groceries to any family that needs them — no questions asked, no paperwork required.
Accessible Participation
We design our PTA meetings and events to be accessible to working families, with meetings alternating between morning and evening times, and Zoom options available. Volunteer opportunities range from one-time event help to ongoing committee work — every level of involvement is valued.
