The Honeysuckle Society is a parent-loved, nature-based after-school program based right here at TNS. Programming is organized around the seasons and the elements -- Earth, Air, and Water -- with hands-on activities like gardening, handcrafts, knitting, and outdoor play in the school's courtyard and surrounding green spaces.
Their philosophy draws from forest-school traditions: child-led, unhurried, and rooted in care for living things. A favorite for younger TNS students.
New this fall: Woodworking
Teaching Artist Yoav Liberman, from The Rudolf Steiner School and the Otto Specht School, joins The Honeysuckle Society in Room 304 this fall. He teaches 40-minute focused sessions on age-appropriate projects twice a month on Tuesdays, and each child gets their own toolkit to practice with at home. To sign up, click Join the Society and select the Woodworking option at registration. Space is limited and some days are close to full, so register early. Woodworking students need to buy their tools ahead of the first class.
Yoav Liberman is a woodworker, author, furniture designer and educator with more than two decades of experience teaching woodworking and practical arts. He spent 13 years as the woodworking teacher at the Rudolf Steiner School in Manhattan and currently teaches handwork and woodworking at the Otto Specht School, the Endeavor 21 program, and craft schools around the country. He wrote Working Reclaimed Wood: A Guide for Woodworkers, Makers, and Designers and contributes to Fine Woodworking, Popular Woodworking and Woodshop News. His teaching focuses on hand-tool safety, fine motor development and building creative confidence.
