Our oldest students lead the school community. In 4/5 classrooms, students engage in rigorous academic work, take on leadership roles, and prepare for the transition to middle school. Their studies connect classroom learning to real-world action.

Literacy & Language Arts

Students read across genres, analyze texts, conduct research, and write persuasive essays, narratives, and reports. They learn to cite evidence, revise deeply, and think critically about authors' choices.

Mathematics

Students extend their work with fractions, decimals, ratios, and algebraic thinking. They use math to model real situations -- from budgets to data analysis -- and prepare for the demands of middle-school math.

Science

Investigations become more systematic. Students study energy, ecosystems, the human body, and Earth and space science, designing experiments and presenting findings.

Social Studies

4/5 social studies includes deep work on US history, geography, civics, and contemporary issues. Students see themselves as citizens with the power to act -- through service projects, advocacy, and community partnerships.

The Arts

Older students take on ambitious arts projects -- visual art exhibitions, original musical compositions, theater productions, and dance performances -- often as the culmination of academic studies.

Social-Emotional Learning

As school leaders, 4/5 students support younger students, mediate conflicts, and shape school culture. They develop the self-awareness, empathy, and decision-making skills they will carry into middle school and beyond.
