In the 2/3 classrooms, students take on more complex projects, deepen their reading and writing, and begin to explore social studies and science through in-depth investigations. They become more independent learners and stronger collaborators.

Literacy & Language Arts

Students read across a wide range of genres, write longer narratives and informational pieces, and learn to revise their work. Reading and writing happen every day, often connected to ongoing studies.

Mathematics

Children master addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division concepts; explore fractions; and apply math to real-world problems. Mathematical reasoning, talk, and multiple strategies are central.

Science

Students design experiments, observe over time, and use data to answer questions. Topics may include the body, ecosystems, matter, forces, and Earth science.

Social Studies

Through in-depth thematic studies, 2/3 students explore communities, history, geography, and civic responsibility -- often through field trips, primary sources, and interviews. Anti-bias, anti-racist questions are part of every study.

The Arts

Studio in a School artists, music with Third Street Music School, and dance partnerships continue to give every student professional arts instruction connected to their academic work.

Social-Emotional Learning

Students take on more responsibility -- for their work, their classroom, and one another. Conflict resolution, group decision-making, and reflection are everyday practices.
